Whiplash or just a pain in the neck?
Before you schedule your massage appointment for that pain in your neck, ask yourself an important question. Is the pain due to a recent fender bender? if so, you may be suffering from whiplash. Keep in mind that whiplash can occur from any quickly forced forward and backward movement of the neck, but is most common after car accidents. Below are the symptoms to look out for. If you have any of them, seek treatment from your physician or chiropractor before your massage therapist.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons lists these common symptoms of whiplash:
* Pain and stiffness in the neck.
* Dizziness, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating.
* Ringing in the ears or blurred vision.* Headaches.
* Pain between the shoulder blades, in the shoulder or lower back.
* Pain or numbness in the hands.
* Fatigue, insomnia and irritability.
