There’s no question that water is a fundamental part of our lives. However, it’s easy to forget how completely depended we are on it. Here are some facts:

The average adult body is 55 to 75 percent water.
Two thirds of your body weight is water (approximately 40-50 quarts).
A human embryo is more than 80% water.
A newborn baby is 74% water.
Everyday your body must replace 2/12 quarts of water.
Every process in our body occurs in a water medium.
We can exist without food for two months, but only a few days without water.

I’ve posted before on the benefits of drinking lots of water after receiving a massage. Water helps to flush the lactic acid and other toxins that are stored in and then released from hypertonic muscles during massage. Water is so essential to how our bodies function overall. Consider these facts: Water aids in our digestion, absorption of food, it regulates our body temperature, blood circulation, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells and removes toxins and other wastes. Our body water also cushions our joints and protects tissues, organs and our spinal cord from shock and damage. Water helps to flush the lactic acid and other toxins that are stored in and then released from hypertonic muscles during massage.

If these are not reasons enough to increase your water consumption, I don’t know what is.
