It’s been said that a one hour therapeutic massage session is the equivalent of walking four miles. A one hour Thai Massage session, then, has got to be closer to a five mile marathon–for the therapist. That is an exaggeration, of course, but not by much. The goal of a Thai Massage or Thai Yoga Massage is to stretch, pull and manipulate the client’s body into yoga-lke positions that elongate the muscles and limbs, while relieving tension on joints.

In Thai Massage, the SEN Lines, or energetic cords that run throughout the body, are just as important as muscle, fascia and bone. By applying pressure, friction or stretching along each SEN line, the therapist is able to keep the Qi, Chi or life force energy flowing openly throughout the body. This flow helps facilitate the healing and relief of tension in the physical body.

Thai Massage is performed with the client fully clothed on a padded floor, though many positions can be performed on a massage table. Many of my clients love how this modality seems to awaken parts of their bodies they didn’t even know needed attention. Though they feel a little sore the next day, as you would after a basic yoga class, knowing that they didn’t have to exert much energy for this “workout” makes many clients fans for life of Thai Massage. And maybe best of all, like most other deep massage modalities, Thai Massage encourage circulation which in turn improves digestion and helps flush out metabolic waste which can help you in a successful weight loss program.
