I want to bring your attention to a phenomenal film that is being presented during current festivals throughout the country. Return, is a film that explores the beauty, intrigue and power of indigenous African healers and their rich history. The filmmakers (one of whom, Dr. Susan James, is a dear family friend) travel to four West African countries and South Africa to get a rare perspective of rituals and ceremonies that tie the past to the future and allow for their personal awakenings. It’s a refreshing look at a deeply layered culture that is too often buried in the famine, plight, war and disease that normally stands out in this continent.

There may be a film festival showing Return in a city near you. Catch it if you can!
