Problems with processed food
Logic will tell you that whole, fresh foods are more nutritious and better for you than processed foods, yet we consume far more of the latter than the former. Convenience can carry most of the blame but at some point we have to take responsibility for the choices we make regarding our meals. Maybe if we knew more about the processed foods we choose to consume, we’d be more likely to spend an extra few hours a week shopping for and preparing real food with few ingredients on the labels. Maybe then too we won’t be so tempted to buy the convenient frozen or drive-thru, overly processed meals on sale that gets us through far too many days and nights.
Donna Gate’s Body Ecology site, in a blatant attempt to generate more followers, has posted on the hidden dangers of processed foods. I am a fan of Body Ecology, though I’m not a true follower. Below is an excerpt of the post. It’s pretty informative. Click the link above for the entire article.
If You Can’t Pronounce It, Do You Want To Eat It?
The problem is, most processed foods have a laundry list of ingredients similar to that of a can of paint. It’s not as simple as adding a little sugar to canned bisque or lemon juice to a scone mix.
Take a look at the list of ingredients from the strawberry flavoring of a milkshake served at a zip-through restaurant:
