I have lived in Atlanta, Georgia for six years and count myself among the lucky minority that does not suffer from seasonal allergies. I am told it’s just a matter of time. Those who do have hay fever and pollen allergies seem to suffer at great lengths from the itchy eyes, scratchy throats, inflamed sinus tissue and nasal irritation. Most people I know pop various forms of over the counter drugs during the spring months in an effort to ease their discomfort as much as possible. Then there are the handful of people who have revealed that they no longer suffer from these dreaded allergy symptoms all because of one magical little discovery: The Neti pot.

A Neti Pot is used for the nasal irrigation–or Neti as it’s known in India and Ayurvedic traditions–process. The process uses soothing, lukewarm salt water to gently cleanse the nasal passages. The solution flows through your nose, washing away pollens, mucus, viruses and bacteria. Use of a neti pot (a ceramic vessel made specifically for this cleansing) is recommended to ease this process.

Now when I’ve relayed the success stories regarding this effective discovery to long-suffering clients or associates of mine, I’m always surprised that they react with such disgust. For those of you who live in regions where the pollen count remains at a reasonable level, that reaction could be understood. Otherwise, why wouldn’t you be willing to try a non-threatening, non-addictive probable solution to a daunting problem that promises to bother you for years to come? Granted, there are no guarantees that nasal irrigation will completely eliminate your allergy problems and it may take weeks and a few applications a day for it to have an effect of you. Not to mention, the process is odd looking and takes some getting used to. But it could mean the end to years of suffering. I know if (or as some would have me think–when) I suffered from the dreaded pollen allergy, a Neti pot would be my springtime companion. If you’re willing and able, you can find them at your local heath food store or click the link above to find a reputable source. Who knows? It could be the answer to your sinus’s prayers.
