How to stay miserable
Want to know what miserable people have in common? Well, according to psychiatrist William Glasser, MD, author of Choice Theory: A New Psychology of Personal Freedom (HarperCollins, 1999), there are seven character traits they share. They are: punishing, complaining, blaming, threatening, nagging, criticizing, and bribing.
Do they sound familiar? Well that’s because Dr. Glasser suggests that a lot of us use the “seven deadlies” on a regular basis. Don’t worry, with a little daily mental effort (and possibly some therapy), these habits can be eliminated. There are three major steps to reversing the state of miserable and they are: One, recognize that the current behavior isn’t working; Two, have a vision of what you want to be like; And three, begin practicing behaviors of how you wanted to be.
