Oh the holidays are here with plenty of opportunities to tie one (or two) on. If you’ve overindulged in alcohol this holiday season and are nursing a hangover, the University of Alabama at Birmingham offers these helpful do’s and don’ts:

Do eat foods high in complex carbohydrates, like bread or crackers. These foods convert to sugar when eatein so they may help prevent low blood sugar and ultimately soothe nausea.
Do get plenty of sleep to feel more rested. Face the fact that you may be moving a little slower than usual and don’t force yourself to do more than you physically can.
Do drink plenty of water or diluted fruit juice — but avoid caffeine — to help rehydrate yourself.
Don’t have another drink the next day to make yourself feel better. The “hair of the dog that bit you” theory is really just a myth that doesn’t hold up when tested.
Despite the widespread belief, coffee, greasy food, or a cold shower won’t help your body metabolize the alcohol any faster.
Don’t take acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) as it may harm the liver when combined with alcohol. Take an asprin or two if you have a headache. Better yet, just keep drinking lots of water to flush the toxins from your system and your headache will be gone in no time.

Lastly, remember the hangover feeling so you’ll avoid overdoing it again next year. Happy Holidays!
