Drinking soft drinks and the calcium in your body
Here’s some interesting news about caffeinated soft drinks and their effects on your body’s calcium levels. According to The Prescription for Nutritional Healing, caffeine and phosphates are linked to calcium loss. Studies showed that increased caffeine consumption led to above normal amounts of calcium in the subject’s urine (and a decrease of bone minerals in women). Also, phosphates, which carbonated soft drinks are filled with, causes the body to eliminate more calcium–drawing it from your bones if need be.
If you’re concerned about your bone mass and risk of osteoporosis, this is another great reason to ween yourself off of Coke and other sugary, caffeinated soft drinks.
