Yes, hungry ghosts. Not like Ghostbusters hungry ghosts. Hungry ghosts according to the Buddhist practice. Hungry ghosts are those desires that control you, rather than you controlling them. Joe Vitale, author of The Attractor Factor, describes the desires of hungry ghosts as similar to those of a spoiled child or a wild monkey drunk with power. The hungry ghosts will have you desiring new shoes when you already have too many or desiring more food when your no longer hungry. The desires of hungry ghosts are driven by neurotic, intense cravings that are displaced desire for our subconscious wantings.
It is possible to attract just about anything that you want but it is very important to be aware of where your desires are coming from. Be aware tht hungry ghosts will appear periodically but won’t feel like the desires welling from your deep core–your true desires. Your true desires are more aligned with the universe and when you focus on them can manifest quicker than you may expect.
When you feel the hungry ghosts arise take time to stop, breathe deeply and try to become aware of your intent with the desire. Ask yourself, “what is the purpose of this desire?”. If nothing else, this practice will train us to become more aware of ourselves and how we self-distract. If that doesn’t work, feel free to call the Ghostbusters.
